As parents, we can’t do enough to encourage little ones to pick up a book and enjoy story time together.
Bed time stories are especially important as part of the night time routine, helping little ones to wind down and relax.
Today as it’s National #ReadABookDay, we are thinking about books that you can read whilst potty training though.
We recommend reading stories that explain potty training as part of your potty training journey, but they can also be used as a reward.
Incentivise good potty or toilet behaviour with the reward of cuddles and stories, or perhaps an extra book at bed time.
So here are our picks for 5 books that you can read to your little potty training superstar:
I want my Potty! – At first the Little Princess thinks the royal potty is even worse than nappies but she soon learns to love it. This story is great at helping children to see the potty as a positive thing, even if it isn’t always there just when she needs it!
We’re Going on a Bear Hunt – Away from the potty training genre, this family favourite will have your little one distracted from the process and allow them to relax whilst sitting on the potty or toilet. Or of course, it makes a great one to act out as a bit of fun when you have a success!
Once Upon a Potty – A classic potty training book telling the story of how a little one first learned how to use a potty. This book will help get your toddler through the milestones of potty training and comes in two versions, one for girls, and one for boys.
Dear Zoo – Another non-potty story, this book is now 35 years old but it’s still a favourite with babies and toddlers. A classic lift-the-flap book will keep them entertained time after time.
Pirate Pete’s Potty – Specifically aimed at parents struggling to potty training for boys aged 18+ months, this book tells stories that cover common anxieties children may have about using the potty.
