Getting your child to wee on the potty

potty training sos

We asked our Facebook Likers to post their potty training worries and allow other parents who had experienced the same thing t0 offer solutions as part of a ‘Potty Training SOS’ series.

Here’s what you had to say…

“My little boy is 2, he will sit on the potty and then stand up and wee on the floor. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can help him actually have a wee on the potty??”

Kerry: My 2 year old son wouldn’t go on potty so I put a trainer seat on the toilet and he used it. He now runs with it to bathroom and puts it on himself, wipes himself with toilet roll puts in toilet and flushes. I make an over-the-top fuss singing and dancing and it’s worked. He has started to use his Thomas potty as well – the ones which convert to step and trainer seat – it sings when it’s used so he uses both. Haven’t mastered a number 2 yet but the wees are all on toilet and has had no accidents as yet.
Laura: Encouragement – you could use a reward chart that is fun and get him to choose a sticker if he has a wee in potty.

Stacey: Allow him to be standing up so just turn him to aim.into the potty.

Rosie: Agree with above (Stacey) – if he likes to stand and we maybe go straight to that or even the toilet on a step.
Nadia: As he stands, move the potty and help aim in to it, then give OTT excitement for the wee in the potty.
